MARIA BARBOSA PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY ON JUNE 2, 2020 WITH HER LOVING DAUGHTERS BY HER SIDE AND WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT SHE WAS FOREVER EMBRACED IN THE ARMS OF HER DEVOTED HUSBAND AND FAMILY.

SHE WAS THE DAUGHTER OF A VALIENT WOMAN WHO TAUGHT HER TO LOVE FIERCEFULLY AND BY EXAMPLE. SHE WAS KIND, GENEROUS AND THOUGHTFUL OF OTHERS. SHE LIVED HER LIFE WITH WIT, A SOURCE OF CONSTANT AMUSEMENT AND ADMIRATION FOR HER THREE GRANDCHILDREN. SHE WAS A CREATIVE AND TALENTED SEAMSTRESS KNOWN FOR HER ARTISTIC DESIGNS. SHE WAS A CONSTANT SOURCE OF STRENGTH WITH A COMFORTING SMILE. A DOER BY NATURE WHO SHIED AWAY FROM THE ALCALADES …. SHE WAS A MOTHER, WIFE, DAUGHTER, SISTER, AUNT, NIECE, COUSIN, FRIEND AND SO MUCH MORE TO SO MANY. SHE WAS NEVER JUST 50%, SHE WAS ALL IN ALL THE TIME.

MARIA WAS A TRUE "NEW YORKER", A CITY THAT SHE WAS PRIVILEGED TO CALL HOME FOR OVER SIXTY YEARS. SHE LOVED HER CITY AND WOULD OFTEN JOKE THAT NOT BEING BORN HERE WAS A MERE TECHNICALITY. DESPITE THE HUMOR, SHE EMBRACED HER ORIGINS WITH EQUAL TENACITY. SHE WAS A DEVOTED PARISHIONER OF ST. ANTHONY'S CHURCH AND WITH A SPARKLE IN HER EYE WOULD OFTEN SAY "HOW COULD I NOT BE, AFTER ALL, I EVEN ATTENDED THEIR GRAMMAR SCHOOL AS A CHILD". PROUD OF HER HERITAGE, SHE LABELED HERSELF "A PORTUGUESE NEW YORKER" AND WAS QUICK TO SAY "I'M NOT THE FIRST AND LIKELY NOT THE LAST". WHEN ASKED HOW SHE WAS DOING, MARIA WAS NOTORIOUS FOR HER STEADY RESPONSE "SO FAR SO GOOD"….EVEN IN HER DARKEST MOMENTS SHE WAS A LOVER OF LIFE.
